Tatiana Botero

Tatiana Botero is an Institute Latino Studies Faculty Fellow, Initiative on Race's; Resilience Affiliated Faculty.

Botero was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Colombia, South America. She will bring a rich cultural background and adeep passion for Latin American heritage to the Mexico City Study Abroad program. Botero came to the University of Notre Dame from Vanderbilt University, where she taught all levels of Spanish for 10 years, served as a faculty mentor for the freshman class, and participated in the Center for Latin American Studies’ outreach program. Her teaching career also includes faculty roles at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, as well as work as a court translator. Her primary academic interests focus on second language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy, specifically emphasizing language instruction through culture, community engagement, and direct service with the local Latino community.

At Notre Dame, she teaches intermediate language courses at the 200-level, for which she was awarded a grant from the Institute for Social Concerns. Botero's dedication to teaching excellence has been recognized with the 2020 Edmund P. Joyce Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Notre Dame, as well as two state honors in 2018: the AATSP Spanish Teacher of the Year Award at the College Level and the IFLTA Indiana World Language Teacher of the Year at the College Level.
