Mexico City: Language, Art, and Story

New for 2027, this two-week Spanish and cultural immersion experience at the University of Notre Dame Mexico’s Global location will introduce students to life in this exhilarating capital of Central America. Mexico City offers students an unusually rich, living laboratory for language and culture in the heart of the Mexican capital. The program is organized around four complementary forms of storytelling - Visual Art & Craft (murals, painting, and craft/design traditions), Music, Food, and Film - each a different artistic language through which a culture narrates its own identity. Daily Spanish instruction is woven directly into this content rather than taught as a parallel track, so that students are using the language skills they're building while engaging with the city around them. Community Engaged Learning (CEL) and team building events are integrated into everyday experiences through the many hands-on activities and field trips where students will be able to engage and practice their language skills in real life settings giving them the confidence to use the language and learn about our community. The program in Mexico City offers a living, contemporary creative capital paired with functional Spanish acquisition.
