The Summer Seminary Immersion Program is a two-week academic course designed for high school men who are considering a vocation to the Catholic priesthood. The program will help young men deepen their own consideration of God's call through study of Sacred Scripture, the Catholic Tradition, and the experience of what it would be like to enter a college seminary program. Participants will live in Old College, the undergraduate seminary for the Congregation of Holy Cross. Their course work will focus on developing a deeper understanding of the priesthood. The daily schedule will include Mass, common prayer, and other community experiences. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in social and service activities with the students in the ND Summer Scholars Program
From Sacraments to Science: A Study of Catholic Priesthood in Scripture, Tradition, Literature, Film, and Society
The Catholic priest has long been a unique and sometimes counter-cultural figure in human society. As someone committed to modeling his life so closely after Christ that he can actually act in persona Christi, the priest, at his best, is an icon of Christ. The unique nature of the priesthood has at times captivated, and at times been misunderstood or criticized, but has always provided a distinctive witness to the world.
This course will allow young men who are open to exploring the priesthood to study the many facets of this unique vocation as part of the Catholic imagination. In the mornings, students will study the priesthood through sacramental and Scriptural lenses, including lectures, breakout discussions, and other activities. In the afternoons, the students will focus on different aspects of priestly ministry, studying historical examples, saints, and hearing from priests currently engaged in ministries.
The program will allow young men discerning the priesthood to understand this vocation better, both from an academic standpoint and from an experience of seminary life.
