College Application Boot Camp

Mc 9

The College Application Boot Camp is an all-expenses paid, weekend-long overnight workshop on Notre Dame’s campus designed to assist local rising sophomore and junior high school students who may lack the resources and/or support to produce effective college applications. Parents will only be responsible for transporting the students to and from campus. Pre-College is particularly interested in serving student populations of first-generation college students and students from low-income families.

The Office of Pre-College Programs and the Office of Outreach and Engagement at the University of Notre Dame are sponsoring the first annual College Application Boot Camp, believing every student should be prepared for a full range of post-secondary options, including college.

These local sessions will help students begin their college search and think more critically about the application process. Through lectures and workshops in this intensive residential experience, attendees will learn how an effective college search can aid them in developing an application that best demonstrates their strength and match with an institution.

Sessions will be conducted by Notre Dame Admissions, the Office of Outreach and Engagement, the Office of Financial Aid, and various other campus departments, focusing on the following aspects of a college application and the college search experience:

  • Standardized Testing Plan
  • College Admissions Essays
  • The Common Application Walkthrough
  • Requesting Recommendations
  • Admissions Interviews
  • College Application Supplemental Materials
  • Parental Sessions on ND Admissions and Financial Aid
  • Finding the Right College Fit
  • Campus Tours

These application workshops are designed to help students who are beginning their college search process and will include general tips on preparing for the application process. Selected students are expected to live on campus and attend all sessions during Boot Camp. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend Sunday afternoon sessions on the Notre Dame Admissions process and financial aid. Attendance at the College Application Boot Camp by the Office of Pre-College Programs will have no bearing on a student’s application should an attendee choose to apply to the University of Notre Dame.
