Application Requirements
Admission into LCLS is highly selective. Students applying for this special program must be prepared to give as much as they receive in terms of active thought and participation in class discussions. Accepted students are typically high academic achievers and leaders in their high schools and communities. A well conceived and executed essay that addresses the student’s cultural and leadership experience within the Latino community will weigh greatly on the admission decision as will a strong teacher or counselor recommendation.
Accepted students to the LCLS meet the following requirements:
- Ethnicity: Hispanic students or students whose identity and experiences resonate with the context and focus of the seminar.
- Year: High school students who will enter their senior year fall of 2010 who plan to attend college immediately after high school.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities in school, church, community, and/or social organizations (e.g. class officers, youth ministers, community leaders, etc.).
- Catholic students: Attending Catholic, public, or private schools.
- Non-Catholic students: Attending Catholic high schools.
- Academics: Students who have pursued the most rigorous curriculum offered in their high schools (e.g. AP, IB or honors courses), and have demonstrated academic excellence.
- Standardized test score required; The following reflects the average test scores, from past participants, from one or more of the following :
- SAT 1300 based on the Critical Reasoning and Math
- PSAT Selection Index of 185
- ACT score of 28
